The ultimate question I get almost every single day is… “Amber, how did you get into blogging?” Well y’all, here is my tell all about how I got into the blogging world.
Let me start off by saying, that if you would’ve told me my senior year of college that THIS would be my job, I would have thought you were absolutely INSANE! As far as I knew, I was taking a job as a reporter somewhere up north. Boy was I wrong.
When I graduated college, my parents really wanted me to come home and “be 22 years old” for a year and have fun. I have been on the go for as long as I can remember…. 14 years of gymnastics, cheered in college and studied 2 majors…. It was time for me to BE AMBER for a change. I had always worked myself to the bone, always having to be perfect, and running on no sleep. However, this whole “coming home” business ended up turning into more hustle than I could have ever imagined. Being a hustler is who I am and something I value about my personality. There was no way I was ever escaping that!
When I got home from college, my mom told me I should start a blog. I looked at her like she had 5 heads. She said “you love fashion, fitness, make up, and you went to school for journalism, it would be a perfect hobby for you to do, Amber!” Again, knowing she was insane, the next day I found myself creating my own website. I started building my instagram content, following, and working on creating my website all in secret. I was afraid that if I started telling people and I failed, I would be disappointed in myself. After spending a solid month and a half creating my website, I decided to launch it… yes publicly. That little girl who thought she was moving north to report, had a completely new world ahead of her.
When I say I worked a minimum of 70 hours a week, I am not joking in the slightest. I fell in love with blogging, taking pictures, sharing my life. It was the perfect creative outlet that I needed. By the time January rolled around (about 6 months after the launch of my website), I got my first ever paid collaboration. WHAT?!? People pay for this exposure?! It all made sense. I finally understood how blogging and social media influencing could become a full time job. So let’s be honest, yes I work hard… but throw money in there too…. SUPERWOMAN HERE I GO! I was determined to make this my full time job, and about another 6 months later, IT OFFICIALLY WAS! I was stable enough with the income from my blog that I was able to live the dream as a social media influencer. In the process of all of that, I was also blessed to find the man of my absolute dreams (yes, shirtless Drew)! Drew has been one of my biggest supporters, cheerleaders, assistant, and shoulder to cry on — along with my family! Not to mention all of the AMAZING women I have met through the blogging world — It is actually remarkable and I am so lucky to have them,
Now for a bit of real talk, everyday is not easy. This world of social media influencing is tough, competitive, frustrating and stressful. You are your own boss (which yes it is WONDERFUL most days!) but doing it all on your own is one of the most challenging yet best life lessons I could have ever learned.
This dream job never gets old. Yes good days and bad days, but not a day goes by that I am not thankful for what my mom convinced me to get into. I had my golden opportunity to “BE AMBER” and I sure as hell am being exactly that. Biggest piece of advice in this story is, DO WHAT YOU LOVE and you will never work a day in your life. Cliche, but so true!
Love you all! Thank you for making this dream job of mine possible!
XOXO - Amber
